A brief history

The area known as Clifton to the south of Nottingham was part of an estate owned by the Clifton family of Clifton Hall for over 700 years.

In 1952 an Act of Parliament changed the area forever by introducing plans to build Europe’s largest council estate next to the original village. By the end of the 1980s, most of the original houses had passed into private ownership.

Another major development in the area was the Clifton Campus of Nottingham Trent University which is located there.

Clifton is bisected by the A453 – a major route from the MI through Nottingham. Work has recently started on the long awaited and controversial A453 dual carriageway.
