Village public houses in South Nottinghamshire in days gone by

By Bernard V. Heathcote

This book tells the history and features anecdotes about 50 pubs in 11 villages in south Nottinghamshire - including Burton Joyce, Calverton Caythorpe, Epperstone, Gonalston, Gunthorpe, Lambley, Lowdham, Oxton and Woodborough.

The author, Bernard Heathcote said the most interesting story he found was folklore that suggested highwayman Dick Turpin may have visited a pub in Caythorpe in the 1700s.

"I think the jury is still out on that one because we have got a little bit of evidence but a lot of pubs suggested that Dick turpin stayed there", Mr Heathcote said.
