Making the post above has spurred me on to find out more about the men listed above. Maurice died in Feb 1919 (Influenza or wounds??) and is buried in Yorkshire. Brothers Herbert and Albert served in the 2/7th and 17th battalions of the Notts and Derby Regt respectively.

Hi Jonathan, Maurice D'Hooghe was my great great uncle. My great grandmother (Sybil D'Hooghe - 1902-2002) was his sister. Maurice had served through the first world war but was gassed and died of the effects the year after. I have a photo of him. He is buried at Pickering cemetery Richard

I am a member of Malton and Norton Rotary (Web site http://www.rotary-ribi.org/clubs/homepage.php?ClubID=220) and the cclub is involved in restoring our war memorial and tracing those named on the 5 memorials in the two towns. M W D'Hooghe is buried in the Norton cemetery and we have been trying to trace his family details and home address. I see from above that he died in the flu epidemic. He was recorded as a still serving member of the R.E. Do you have any details of his service career and his address in the census records for 1911. We hope to publish in the near future a record of the 150(c) fallen recorded. With many thanks Colin Jennings

Hi Jonathan and Colin,

I'm glad I've just spotted this post as I have had a member of Ordnance Survey contact me as M W D'Hooghe (Maurice Wright) was a member of their section in the Royal Engineers. They are wanting to write a biography of him as part of events to mark WWI.

This has spurred me to ask family and also to find Maurice's grave at Norton which I did on Friday.

Colin: I'd love to assist you in supplying the info you requested.

I should copy you into the communications with Ordnance Survey - if you can supply an email.

Regards, Richard
