I have produced a small booklet about a walk I made along the Nottingham to Beeston Canal. It follows the walk from the canals start at River Trent and Meadow Lane Lock at Nottingham to its end at Beeston Lock and the River Trent at Beeston. With many photographs taken along its length and a look back at some of the canals historical past, where photographs were not available then sketches have been included in the book. The Jolly Anglers was also the venue for many inquests that were held for the victims of drowning etcetera that took place around the Canal environment. One landlord of the old Jolly Anglers was a Mr. Fred Reavill, by all accounts a genial fellow who was the landlord for 39 years from 1907 to 1946. It was Fred Reavill who transferred the licence from the old Jolly Anglers in 1937 to the new Jolly Anglers on Meadow Road. He was a life saver of renown being credited with saving the lives of at least 29 people from drowning in the Canal. He received the Royal Humane Society's Bronze Medal in 1911 for his extraordinary life saving efforts many of these to save animals, dogs, cats and horses etcetera.
