What the papers said about lesbians and gay men
By David Edgley
"Nottingham in the News" is the title given to 2 small publications produced by Nottinghamshire's Rainbow Heritage. They are made up of extracts from articles and letters in various newspapers which comment on lesbian and gay issues. The earliest reference is from 1915.

- The "gay swimming furore" when many newspapers whipped up hysteria by inaccurate reports about how AIDS/HIV infection could be transmitted
- Some councillors' attitudes to the employment of lesbians and gay men
The second edition of "Nottingham in the News" mentions
- The controversy over Trent University's establishment of a professorship of gay and lesbian studies
- A local gay councillor being mistaken by Italian police for a terrorist wanted by the CIA
