Over the years the appearance of Launder Street in The Meadows has changed enormously.
It was first developed during the 1870s and from that time until the redevelopment of the area in the 1970s it was dominated on the west side by two large factories. In the early years these were engineering works - the Moscow Works and the Phoenix Works.
On the east side of Launder Street was the St Saviour's Mission Church and School and Launder Cottages - two short rows of small terraced houses.
All of those buildings were demolished during the redevelopment period.
Today, on the west side there are Strome and Levick Courts where the factories were and on the east side there is St Patrick's Roman Catholic Church on the site of Launder Cottages.
