Blacksmith's smithy

Wollaton Road, Beeston

By Stephen Wallwork

The first photograph shows the blacksmith's cottage and the second shows the blacksmith shoeing a horse in 1980 in the forge behind the cottage.  There has been a blacksmith here since at least 1851 when the census recorded William Dix as a blacksmith at the 'Top of Butcher's Lane', as Wollaton Road was called then.  The cottage is now a funeral director's office.
