About our Gardens

The St Ann's Allotments is a very special and unique allotment site. It is the oldest and largest area of Victorian detached town gardens in the world and is listed with a Grade 2* by English Heritage. The site covers over 70 acres of hilly land between St Ann's and Mapperley, in Nottingham.

Whilst the site is not open to the public, there are many ways to visit.

Visiting the site

We have two major events a year: ‘Spring Open Day’ and ‘Heritage Open Day’. On these days we join with other partners on the site to provide a wide range of activities.

We run regular heritage tours from March to October on the third Sunday and the last Wednesday of the month. We can also run tailor-made tours for groups on request. Tours may focus on history or gardening.

The Heritage Officer can also visit your group to talk about our project.

Volunteering

We have opportunities for volunteers in the following areas

• Hands on work – hedge laying, clearance, plot development
• Research – fruit trees, plants, structures, oral history, gardening and allotment history 
• Education work with local schools
• Heritage Fruit Tree Project

Renting an allotment

We operate a waiting list which is now only available for Nottingham City residents.

Access to site

The site terrain makes it difficult for people with mobility difficulties. Disabled visitors should contact the office prior to their visit to discuss access arrangements.
