Nuthall Temple
All that's left of it...
...gatepost outside the Three Ponds public house in Nuthall
Palladio's Villa Capra
on which Nuthall Temple was based
Palladian mansion (1754-57) by Thomas Wright.
This was one of the finest houses in England, let alone the county.
As well as its beautiful exterior, it was also famous for plasterwork by Thomas Roberts. When nobody could afford to maintain it Nuthall Temple was demolished in 1929.
If you access or leave the M1 by Junction 26 you will drive over the site of this wonderful lost building.
