RANDLE, T (of Sutton-in-Ashfield) Thomas Randle Private 28440 2nd Bn Cheshire Regiment Killed in action France and Flanders 3rd October 1915. Formerly 22474 Notts and Derby Regiment, Thomas Randle died on Sunday 3rd October 1915 aged 24 and is commemorated at the LOOS MEMORIAL, Pas de Calais, France.
He was born c1891 at Stonebroom Derbyshire and was the son of Absalom and Mary Randle. At the time of Thomas’s death the family were living at 4, Carsic Lane, Sutton and they later moved to 106, Kirkby Road , Sutton.
This is a report that appeared in the Notts Free Press dated 11th February 1916:- ANOTHER MINER HERO Sutton Soldier Lost Official news has been reported of the death of Private T Randle 28440 4th Company 2nd Battalion Cheshire Regiment whose home is 4, Carsic Lane Sutton. The last letter received by his parents was on 27th Sept and after being reported as missing since November it is now intimated that he was killed on October 3rd. Private Randle who was 24 years old formerly worked at Brierley Hill Colliery. He enlisted on January 20th 1915 and went to France in July being transferred from Notts & Derbys to the 2nd Cheshires. Deceased has a younger brother aged 20 in France.
