Ollerton Hall

By Peter Anthony Bak

I found it most interesting reading about the life of Robert Stretton Wilson of Tuxford Hall. Myself and wife Teresa have just written a book about the Markham and Savile families of Ollerton Hall - titled "0LLERTON OF OLD". The book has information of families that lived in Ollerton Hall and the village including Stretton Wilson " Veterinary Surgeon & Farmer", who lived at the hall.

Stretton Wilson born 1830 & died 1904 married Eliza Moody in August 1954 and had their first child Robert in 1855 at Ollerton.

Stretton Wilson and his wife are buried in Ollerton Cemetery, (Boughton Road) now "Forest Road" in their family vault.

He outlived both of his sons and wife. The funeral report in the Nottinghamshire Guardian of 12/5/1885 of his wife describes how much he was revered by the local residents of Ollerton. Local business men acted as Pall Bearers  when she was laid to rest in the family plot.
