Can You Help?

OurNotts has been contacted by a user with the following query:-

There used to be a record shop in Sherwood in the early 1970s.  It was originally located near to Woolworths on or close to Newstead Street  It was also located further up Mansfield Road close to Burlington Road.  I bought my first record from the shop aged 10 years "Cum on Feel the Noize" by Slade (1973).

Can anyone help with the name of the record store?

If so, please leave a Comment via the link below.  Thank you

This may have been William Turner's, 625 Mansfield Road, which is listed as 'gramophone dealer' in the 1956 Kelly's Directory (the latest one I can find here in Mansfield Library, though they went on into the late '60s and you may be able to find one closer to your required date at the Angel Row Library).

The retailer in question was 'Rumbellows'. I recall the shop being fitted out and stocked in 1968. The company was established by Fred Dawes during the 1950s. By 1968 Thorn EMI had bought these and other smaller companies and renamed all of them Rumbelows. The brand never made a profit and all 285 Rumbelows (and their spin-offs) branches were closed in February 1985.
