Plague at East Markham - and a Lost Village

To the south of the church (at the edge of the present village) there is an area of disturbed meadow which ishows the site of a Medieval village.

Following an outbreak of plague in 1609 - when more than a quarter of the population died - the village relocated to its present position nearer the Lincoln Road.
