Langwith Lodge
Diabetic Hospital
By Pauline Marples
This was a booklet given to people diagnosed with diabetes who were sent to Langwith Lodge to learn how to control their medication and diabetes. Many people recall this as a very good place to go in, helping them to understanding their illness. Also recalled is that the staff were strict on keeping to the rules, and while patients were encouraged to go for long walks they were not allowed to go to the local pub. The sister claimed she had contact with the landlord of the Jug and Glass who would report back to her if patients went in there. How true this was is unknown. It was known that on an occasion a patient went home for the weekend to save family having to visit.
