Pte, Notts & Derbys Regt.

By Joanne Pullen

Died aged 22, 12th September 1917 in the Cambrin sector of France.

The following extract from a letter, dated 18th September 1917 from the company Chaplain to Mr & Mrs G . Darwin of Mill House, Clayworth (parents), gives the circumstances og Pte Darwin's death:-

"An enemy trench mortar shell landed in the middle of one of our posts the other night and killed a great number of our men of Whom Pte G. Darwin was one.  It may comfort you, however, to know that he cannot have suffered, and that our brave men who have given up their lives in this great cause are most surely kept safe in the arms of God until the day when we shall meet again"
