Sutton in Ashfield

By David Reid

It is said that the Boot family had been making clocks in Sutton in Ashfield for over a hundred years starting with John Boot in 1740. John trained 3 of his children in clock making, it is believed the works were on King Street in the centre of the Town. There were other clock makers in the town at this time.

The Sundial was said to be in place due to the clock makers in the town.
