Lambley Dumbles
Dumble - A hole or piece of stagnant water in a wood or dell
Dumble - a wooded dingle
These two definitions are given in Thomas Wright's Dictionary of Obsolete and Provincial English of 1857 and James Orchard Halliwell's Dictionary of Archaic and Provincial Words of 1850.
"Dumble" is a name found applied in Notts to sections along small watercourses (streams etc), the steep sides of which have become covered with thicket of brambles etc.
Possibly from the Latin 'Dumetum" - a place set thick with bushes or brambles.
Dumbles are also to be found in Notts at Oxton, Epperstone, Westhorpe and Halloughton (which are all near Lambley itself)
